Thermal Belt Rail Trail Attractions
One of the fabulous things about the Thermal Belt Rail Trail is that it passes right through or behind multiple towns, so you don’t have to get off the trail for very long to enjoy the attractions nearby. You could easily spend a whole afternoon in the town of Spindale, which is the eastern terminus of the trail.
Grab a cup of coffee at Broad River Coffee or a slice of pizza at Barleys Taproom and Pizzeria. If you want a sweet treat to complete your meal, try the Shake Shop.
The city also hosts the Dairy Goat Festival and Parade in the spring and is home to the American Dairy Goat Association (ADGA) all year long. Swing by the ADGA office and you just might learn something you never knew about goats!
When you pass through the town of Rutherfordton, spend some time in the downtown area. You’ll discover activities to please your entire group. Children will love Kidsenses, a hands on children’s museum suited for kids ages 1 to 12.
You’ll find multiple fine art stores and galleries and restaurants such as:
If you want to make your visit to the Thermal belt Rail Trail a weekend trip, think about visiting the nearby Lake Lure. There you will find Canopy Ridge Farm and Lake Lure Adventure Company. These groups offer zip line, tubing and kayaking adventures. You can also see the land on horseback with Cedar Creek Stables. For lodging in the area, check out the Carrier House Bed and Breakfast or the Firehouse Inn, both in Rutherfordton. You can also find accommodations just about 10 miles out of town off of Highway 74.
